ABTHORPE, a parish in the hundred of TOWCESTER,
county of NORTHAMPTON, 3 miles (W. S. W.) from
Towcester, containing, with the hamlets of Charlock
and Foscote, 417 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage,
in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of
Peterborough, endowed with £400 private benefaction,
and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Samuel
Blencowe and others. The church is dedicated to St.
John the Baptist. Jane Leeson, in 1646, bequeathed a
rent-charge of £3 for the instruction of poor children.
