ACKLAM, a parish in the wapentake of BUCKROSE,
East riding of the county of YORK, comprising the
townships of Acklam with Barthorpe, and Leavening,
and containing 683 inhabitants, of which number, 389
are in the township of Acklam with Barthorpe, which
is partly within the liberty of ST-PETER-OF-YORK, 7
miles (S.) from New Malton. The living is a discharged
vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of
the Chancellor of the Cathedral Church of York, rated
in the king's books at £ 5. The church is dedicated to
St. John the Baptist. There are places of worship for
Wesleyan and Primitive Methodists.
