ALDINGTON, a parish partly in the liberty of ROMNEY-MARSH, but chiefly in the franchise and barony of BIRCHOLT, lathe of SHEPWAY, county of KENT, 5 miles (W. by N.) from Hythe, containing 735 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with the perpetual curacy of Smeeth annexed, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Archbishop of Canterbury, rated in the king's books at £38. 6. 8. The church, dedicated to St. Martin, displays the early style of English architecture in its general structure 5 but, among later additions, there is a finely ornamented window of five lights.
