ALFORD, a parish in the hundred of CATSASH, county of SOMERSET, if mile (W. by N.) from Castle- Cary, containing 136 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at £ 9- 9. 9-, and in the patronage of John Thring, Esq. The church is dedicated to All Saints. At a farmhouse called Alford Well, about three quarters of a mile from the church, there is a saline chalybeate spring, now disused, but formerly in great repute for the cure of scorbutic complaints and jaundice.
