AMPNEY-DOWN, a parish in the hundred of CROWTHORNE-and-MINETY, county of GLOUCESTER, 4 miles (S. W. by W.) from Fairford, containing 365 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Gloucester, rated in the king's books at & 10. 5. 8., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Canons of Christ Church, Oxford. The church, dedicated to All Saints, has a tower and spire, and is chiefly in the early English style, having been built by the Knights Templars, to whom the living was given by Edward I.
