APPLETON-le-STREET, a parish in the wapentake of RYEDALE, North riding of the county of YORK, comprising the chapelry of Swinton, and the townships of Amotherby, Appleton le Street, Broughton, and Hildenley, and containing 873 inhabitants, of which number, 173 are in the township of Appleton le Street, 3 miles (W. N. W.) from New Malton. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Cleveland, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £7- 8. 6., and in the patronage of the Master and Fellows of Trinity College, Cambridge. The church is dedicated to All Saints.
