ARLECDON, a parish in ALLERDALE ward above Darwent, county of CUMBERLAND, 5 miles (K. N.E.) from Whitehaven, comprising the townships of High and Low Frizington and Whillymoor, and containing 478 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Bishop of Chester, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, has been rebuilt, and was consecrated August 25th, 1829. Fairs for cattle are held on April 24th, the first Friday in June, and September 17th. Coal, iron-ore, limestone, and freestone, are found in the parish. On an estate called Cringlegill is a chalybeate spring, the water of which is stated to possess similar properties to that of Ilarrogate.
