ARRETON, a parish in the liberty of EAST-MEDINA,
Isle of Wight division of the county of
SOUTHAMPTON, 3 miles (S. E.) from Newport, containing
1757 inhabitants. The living is a dinchargod
vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester,
rated in the king's books at £21, and in the patronage
of J. Fleming, Esq. The church in dedicated
to St. George. In 1688, John Mann, Esq. left a rentcharge
of £46 for maintaining, educating, and apprenticing
poor orphans and others belonging to^fhis parish.
