ASHTON, a parish in the hundred of CLELEY,
county of NORTHAMPTON, 7 miles (S. by E.) from
Northampton, containing 341 inhabitants. The living
is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and
diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at
£10, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church
is dedicated to St. Michael. This parish has a communication
with the North sea, by means of the Northampton
canal and the river Nene.
