ASTON (STEEPLE), a parish in the hundred of WOOTTON, county of OXFORD, 4 miles (S. by E.) from Deddington, containing, with the township of Middle Aston, 515 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £16. 2. 85., and in the patronage of the Principal and Fellows of Brasenose College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. The petty sessions for the division are held here. A school for the education of poor children is endowed with about £ 17 per annum. A tesselated pavement was discovered in the vicinity, in the sixteenth century.
