ASTON-BOTTERELL, a parish in the hundred of STOTTESDEN, county of SALOP, 7 miles (N. W. by W.) from Cleobury-Mortimer, containing 230 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Hereford, rated in the king's books at £7. 1. 0., and in the patronage of the Marquis of Cleveland. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. This place formerly had a market on Tuesday, and a fair at Michaelmas, by grant from Henry III. It was then held under the Earls of Arundel by the family of Botterel, from whom it derived the adjunct to its name. The Llanymynech canal passes along the western and southern parts of the parish.
