ATHERINGTON, or ALDRINGTON, a parish (formerly), in the
hundred of FISHERGATE, rape of LEWES,
county of SUSSEX, 2 miles (W. by N.) from Brighton.
The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry
of Lewes, and diocese of Chichester, rated in the Icing's
books at £7. 10. 2., and in the patronage of the
Master and Fellows of Magdalene College, Cambridge.
The church has been destroyed, and the village depopulated,
by the encroachments of the sea.
