AUGHTON, a parish in the hundred of WEST-DERBY,
county palatine of LANCASTER, 2 miles (S.W.) from
Ormskirk, containing 1279 inhabitants. The living is
a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester,
rated in the king's books at £14. 15. 5., and in the
patronage of John Plumbe Tempest, Esq. The church
is dedicated to St. Michael. The Liverpool and Wigan
canal passes through the parish.
