BILLINGE (CHAPEL-END), a chapelry in that part of the parish of WIGAN which is in the hundred of WEST-DERBY, county palatine of LANCASTER, 5 miles (S. W.) from Wigan, containing 1002 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £200 royal bounty, and £1000 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Rector of Wigan. The manufacture of cotton is here carried on to a limited extent. A charity school here has a trifling endowment.
