BIRDFORTH, a chapelry in the parish of COXWOLD, wapentake of BIRDFORTH, North riding of the county of YORK, 4 miles (N.W. by N.) from Easingwould, containing 42 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Cleveland, and diocese of York, endowed with £800 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Archbishop of York. The antiquity of this place is evinced by its having given name to the hundred.
