BIRKBY, a township in the parish of MUNCASTER,
ALLERDALE ward above Darwent, county of CUMBERLAND,
2 miles (E. by S.) from Ravenglass. The
population is returned with the parish. Extensive ruins
of a British or Danish city, called Barnscar, are visible
on Birkby-Fell.
