BIRKENSHAW, a hamlet in the parish of BIRSTALL,
wapentake of MORLEY, West riding of the county of
YORK, 5 miles (S.E.) from Bradford. The population
is returned with the township of Gomersall. A new
church is in progress of erection here. A great quantity
of coal and iron-stone is found in the vicinity, and the
manufacture of woollen goods is carried on to a very
great extent.
