BIRKER, a township, joint with Austhwaite, in
the parish of MILLOM, ALLERDALE ward above Darwent,
county of CUMBERLAND, f\ miles (B. by N.)
from Ravenglass, containing, with Austhwaite, 101 inhabitants.
This township is within the limits of the
chapelry of Eskdale, in the adjoining parish of St. Bees,
and .the inhabitants enjoy the privilege of marrying
and burying there. The lake Devock-water, and the waterfalls
of Birker Force and Stanley Gill are in the neighbourhood,
which abounds with picturesque scenery.
