BIRTLES, a township in the parish of PRESTBURY
hundred of MACCLESFIELD, county palatine of CHESTER,
2f miles (W. by N.) from Macclesfield, containing
47 inhabitants. There are various tumuli in the neighbourhood,
and fragments of urns, which formerly contained
burnt bones, have been discovered.
