BITTESWELL, a parish in the hundred of GUTHLAXTON, county of LEICESTER, 1 mile (N. by W.) from Lutterworth, containing 427 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £4. 3. ()§., and in the alternate patronage of the Master and Wardens of the Haberdashers' Company, and the Governors of Christ's Hospital, London. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The Roman Watling-street passes along the verge of the parish, and there is a mineral spring within its limits.
