BLACKFORD, a parish in the hundred of WHITLEY,
though locally in the hundred of Horethorne,
county of SOMERSET, 4 miles (W. S. W.) from Wincanton,
containing 154 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of WeUs, and
diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at
£6. 11. 0., endowed with £1200 parliamentary grant,
and in the patronage of the Rev. J. Richards. The
church, dedicated to St. Michael, is in the early style
of English architecture, but there is a Norman arch
over the entrance.
