BLEASBY, a parish in that part of the liberty of SOUTHWELL-and-SCROOBY which separates the northern from the southern division of the wapentake of Thurgarton, county of NOTTINGHAM, 3 miles (S.S.E.) from Southwell,. containing 29Q inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Chapter of the Collegiate Church of Southwell, rated in the king's books at £4, and endowed' with £200 royal bounty. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient edifice, in very good repair. The village occupies a secluded situation on the western side of the river Trent, over which there is a ferry. The free grammar school at East Retford has considerable property in this parish.
