BOLTON-upon-DEARNE, a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of STRAFFORTH-and-TICKHILL, West riding of the county of YORK, 7 miles (N. by E.) from Rotherham, containing 623 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £6. 15. 5., endowed with £800 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of W. Marsden, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. A statute fair for hiring servants is held on the second Thursday in November. There is a charitable fund from which £11. 10. are paid annually for the instruction of twenty. poor children, principally arising from a bequest by Richard Bingley, in 1756, and one by Elizabeth Pashley, in 1759.
