BONBY, a parish in the northern division of the wapentake of YARBOROUGH, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 65 miles (N.) from Glandford-Bridge, containing 275 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage., in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £6. 4. 4., and in the patronage of Lord Yarborough. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, has lately received an addition of one hundred sittings, fifty of which are free, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £ 50 towards defraying the expense. In the reign of John, an Alien priory was established by the prior and convent at Merton, to whom this church, with others, had been granted in the 4th of Henry IV., which was given to the Chartreux-house at BeauVal.
