BRAMPTON, a parish in the southern division of the hundred of ERPINGHAM, county of NORFOLK, 2f miles (S. B.) from Aylsham, containing 145 inhabitants, The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £5, and in the patronage of R. Marsham, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, has a tower circular at the base and octangular above. From several urns containing calcined bones, this is conjectured to have been the place of interment of the Roman station at Burgh, on the opposite side of the river Bure, which is here navigable.
