BRIGNALL, a parish in the western division of the wapentake of GILLING, North riding of the county of YORK, 1 mile (S. W. by W.) from Greta-Bridge, containing 216 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Richmond, and diocese of Chester, rated in the king's books at £ 8. 12. 6., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. A school was established here, in 1817, by J. B. S. Morritt, Esq., who allows £15 per annum for its support.
