BRIGSTOCK, a parish in the hundred of CORBY, county of NORTHAMPTON, 22 miles (N, E.) from Northampton, containing 1037 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, with the perpetual curacy of Stanion annexed, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £11. 7. 31., and in the patronage of the Marquis of Cleveland. The church,- dedicated to St. Andrew, has some Norman remains amidst various alterations of later date; the tower is of very rude workmanship, and plastered. There is a small endowment for parochial schools. By a custom that prevails in the manor, if any man die seized of copyhold lands or tenements which have descended to him in fee, his youngest son inherits 5 but if they have been purchased by him, they descend to the eldest son.
