BROCKLESBY, a parish in the eastern division of the wapentake of YARBOROUGH, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 7 miles (N. by E.) from Caistor, containing, with the hamlet of Little Limber, 256 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £7,10. 10., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Lord Yarborough. The church is dedicated to All Saints. A monastery of the Premonstratensian order, in honour of St. Mary and St. Martial, was founded at Newsham, in this parish, by Peter de Gousla, in 1143, which, at the dissolution, had a revenue of £114. 1.4.
