BROUGH, a hamlet, joint with Shatton, in the parish of HOPE, hundred of HIGH-PEAK, county of DERBY, 5 miles (N. N. E.) from Tideswell, containing, with Shat ton, 93 inhabitants. A place called the Castle, near the junction of two small streams, the Noe and the Bradwell Water, was evidently the site of a Roman station, probably Crococolana; numerous Roman relics have been discovered, coins (among which is a gold coin of Vespasian), and rude busts, one being a bust of Apollo.
