BROUGHTON (EAST), a chapelry in the parish of CARTMEL, hundred of LONSDALE, north of the sands, county palatine of LANCASTER, 2 miles (N. by E.) from Cartmel, containing 381 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Richmond, and diocese of Chester, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £200 parliamentary grant/and in the patronage of Lord G. Caven- dish. The chapel, which was consecrated in 1745, ia dedicated to St. Peter.
