BROUGHTON (NETHER), a parish in the hundred
of FRAMLAND, county of LEICESTER, 5 miles (N.W.) from
Melton-Mowbray, containing 435 inhabitants. The
living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and
diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £ 11.5.7v
and in the patronage of the Earl of Radnor and the
Hon. Francis Bowater, alternately. The church is .dedicated
to St. Mary. Broughton is in the honour of Tutbury,
duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction
of a court of pleas held at Tutbury every third Tuesday,
for the recovery of debts under 40*.
