BUCKNILL, a parish partly in the hundred of WIGMORE, county of HEREFORD, but chiefly in the hundred of PURSLOW, county of SALOP, 3 miles (E. N. £.) from Knighton, containing, with the township of Buxton with Coxall, 465 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Hereford, rated in the king's books at £5.6.8., endowed with £400 private benefaction, and in the patronage of the Master and Wardens of the Grocers' Company. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Bucknill is in the honour of Tutbury, duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction of a court of pleas held at Tutbury every third Tuesday, for the recovery of debts under 40s.
