BURGH, a village (formerly a market-town) comprising the consolidated parishes of St. Margaret and St. Mary, in the western division of the hundred of FLEGG, county of NORFOLK, 3 miles (N. E. by E.) from Aqle, containing 396 inhabitants. The living of St. Margaret's is a discharged rectory, rated in the king's books at £8. 13. 4., and 'endowed with £200 royal bounty; that of St. Mary's is also' a discharged rectory, rated at £4; they are in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, and in the patronage of Charles Lucas, Esq. The church of St. Mary has long been in ruins/ Henry III. granted permission to hold a free market here weekly on Monday, and a fair annually on the eve and festival of St. Margaret, and on the six following days.
