BUXTON, a parish in the southern division of the hundred of ERPINGHAM, county of NORFOLK, 3 miles (N..W.) from Coltishall, containing 504 inhabitants. The living- is a discharged vicarage, with the rectories of Oxnead and Skeyton annexed, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £5. 13. 9., endowed with £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of George Anson, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. There is a place of worship for Particular Baptists. In this parish are two almshouses, endowed by Sir John Picto with eighteen -acres of land. . This was a subordinate Roman station, the name of which is .not precisely known; several coins, urns, and other- remains of that people have been discovered.
