CALVERTON, a parish in the southern division of the wapentake of THURGARTON; county of NOTTINGHAM, 7 miles (N.N.E.) from Nottingham, containing 1064 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Chapter of the Collegiate Church of Southwell, rated in the king's books at £4, endowed with £400 royal bounty, and in the alternate patronage of the Prebendaries of Oxtpn in the Collegiate Church of Southwell. The church is dedicated to St. Wilfrid. There-is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. This parish is in the honour of Tutbury, duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction of a court of pleas held at Tutbury every third Tuesday, for the recovery of debts under 40s. A school is endowed with £6 per annum, and a house and garden.
