CATTON, a parish in the hundred of TAVERHAM; county of NORFOLK, 2 miles (N.) from Norwich, containing 639 inhabitants. The living is a discharged Vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £4. 3. 9., and endowed with £200 royal bounty. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret. In 1724, John Norman bequeathed land for teaching and apprenticing some of his relations; and, after sixty years, as his estate increased, to be applied to the erection and endowment of an hospital for boys.
