CHADDESDEN, a parish in the hundred of APPLETREE, locally in that of Morleston and Litchurch, county of DERBY, 2 miles (E.) from Derby, containing 486 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Derby, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, and in the patronage of Sir Robert Wilmot, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Mary; there is a, stone stall in the chancel. The Derby canal passes through the parish. In 1638, an almshouse for six poor persons was founded and endowed by Edward Wilmot, Esq.; the inmates are nominated by Sir Robert Wilmot, who repairs the almshouses, and each receives two shillings per week. There is a small donation by Robert Walker for the education of three children; and, in 1813, John Berrysford left £16. 4. per annum, to be distribxited amongst the widows and orphans of the parish.
