CHALDON, a parish in the first division of the hundred of WALLINGTON, county of SURREY, 3 miles (N.E.) from Gatton, containing 166 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Surrey, and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at £7. 10. 7., and in the patronage of the Rev. Thomas Welton. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. The vroydon railway passes through this parish. Here are Some quarries of a soft species of stone, which is not much used; and in the chalk-pits are frequently found incrustations of marine shells.
