CHATTON, a parish in the eastern division of GLENDALE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 4 miles (E.) from Wooler, containing 1460 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Northumberland, and diocese of Durham, rated in the king's books at £12. 16. 0., and in the patronage of the Duke of Northumberland. The church, dedicated to the Holy Cross, was rebuilt about 1763, The parish contains coal and limestone.
