CHERITON (NORTH), a parish in the hundred of
HORETHORNE, county of SOMERSET, 3 miles (S.W. by
S.) from Wincanton, containing 216 inhabitants. The
living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of
Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the
king's books at £8. 12. 1., and in the patronage of the
Rev. Thomas Gatehouse. The church is dedicated to St.
John the Baptist.
