CHETTON, a parish in the hundred of STOTTESDEN,
county of SALOP, 4 miles (S. W. by W.) from Bridgenorth,
containing, with the chapelry of Loughton, 573
inhabitants. The living is a rectory, consolidated in
1760 with those of Deuxhill and Glazeley, in the
archdeaconry of .Salop, and diocese of Hereford, rated
in the king's books at £11. The church, dedicated to
St. Giles, has a Norman tower; the chancel is in the
early English style, and the nave is of modern erection.
There is a bequest of about £8 per annum for teaching
poor children, which, with additional subscriptions, is
applied to the instruction of about seventy children.
