CHILWORTH, a parish in the hundred of MANSBRIDGE, Fawley division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 4 miles (S. E. by E.) from Romsey, containing 123 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Winchester, endowed with £600 royal bounty, and £ 200 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of John Fleming, Esq. The church is a small, but neat, edifice, rebuilt a few years since by the late patron, P. Serle, Esq. The soil is peculiarly favourable to the growth of oak, which is here produced in great luxuriance.
