CHINNOCK (MIDDLE), a parish in the hundred of
HouNDSBOROUGH-BERWICK-and-COKER, county of SOMERSET,
3 miles (N. B. by N.) from Crewkerne, containing
173 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry
of Wells, and diocese of Bath and Wells, rated
wx.the king's books at.£7.9. 7., and in the patronage of
the Earl of Ilchester. The church, dedicated to St. Margaret,
has a Norman arch over the southern entrance.
Hemp and flax are produced in this parish, and the
poor are employed in spinning and weaving them into
sail-cloth, &c.
