CHRISTCHURCH, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of CALDICOTT, county of MONMOUTH, 2 miles (E. N. E.) from Newport, containing, with the hamlet of Caertou-ultra-Pontem, 854 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Llandaff, rated in the king's books at £ 13. 4. 2., and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of Eton College. The church is a large and ele: gant edifice, occupying an elevated situation. The petty sessions for the lower division of the hundred are held here, and also at Magor. The river Usk partly bounds this parish, in which there is an abundance of limestone.
