CHURCH-STANTON, a parish in the hundred of
HEMYOCK, county of DEVON, 11 miles (N. by E.) from
Honiton, containing 862 inhabitants. The living is a
rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter,
rated in the king's books at £26. 5. 5., and in the patronage
of the Rev. J. Clarke. The church is dedicated
to St. Paul: one hundred and fourteen free sittings have
recently been added, towards defraying the expense of
which, the Incorporated Society for the .enlargement of
churches and chapels granted £ 80. There is a small
endowed school.
