CHURCH-TOWN, a chapelry in that part of the parish of WHALLEY which is in the lower division of the hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine of LANCASTER, 4 miles (E.) from Blackburn, containing 752 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £10 per annum and £200 private benefaction, £200 royal bounty, and £700 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of Earl Howe. The chapel is dedicated to St. James. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
