CLEMENTS (ST.), a parish in the western division of the hundred of POWDER, county of CORNWALL, containing 2306 inhabitants. Part of the town of Truro is situated in this parish. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £9, and in the patronage of the King, as Duke of Cornwall. The river Pal runs through the parish, in which are some mineral springs. Charles I., after his defeat at this place, in 1646, took refuge at Polwhele, anciently a castle, and the family seat of the ancestors of the historian of the county of Cornwall.
