CLIFTON, a township in the parish of ECCLES,
hundred of SALFORD, county palatine of LANCASTER,
5 miles (N. W. by W.) from Manchester, containing 1168
inhabitants. New collieries have been opened at this
place, whereby its population has greatly increased.
