COMBROOK, a chapelry in the parish of KINGTON,
Kington division of the hundred of KINGTON, county of
WARWICK, 2 miles (w. byN.) from Kington, containing
289 inhabitants. The chapel is dedicated to St. Margaret.
There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
In 1641, Sir Grevill Verney gave an annuity of £8 towards
supporting the free school founded by his mother,
with an endowment of £25 per annum for instructing
all the poor children of Combrookand Compton-Verney;
and in 1763, Lady Tryphena Verney, agreeably to a
bequest of £300 by her husband, George Verney, Esq.,
conveyed to trustees an estate at South Littleton, in the
county of Worcester, for the maintenance of two
scholars at Trinity College, Cambridge, to be chosen
from this school, or, in default, out of the grammar
school at Warwick.
