CONDOVER, a parish in the hundred of CONDOVER, county of SALOP, 4 miles (S.) from Shrewsbury, containing 1378 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Salop, and diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, rated in the king's books at & 4. 14., and in the patronage of E..W. S. Owen, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. A school is supported by divers donations, amounting in the whole to £ 25 per annum. Here is a small lake, termed Bomere, in and near which have been found several rare botanical plants. There is a mine of coal in the parish.
